چکیده

Background Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) can be utilized to evaluate hemodynamic characteristics in patients with surgically implemented Total Cavo Pulmonary Connection (TCPC). The simulation process is however often complex and rarely takes into account characteristics such as pulmonary resistance and Aorto-Pulmonary Collaterals in analyses to predict outcome of interventions. The aim of this study was therefore to develop a framework to predict interventional outcomes on TCPC patients by using commercial off-the-shelf software for patient-specific CFD simulations including pulmonary resistance and the effect of Aorto-Pulmonary Collaterals.

Comparison of Power Losses in Intra-atrial and Extra-cardiac Total Cavo- Pulmonary Connections using Computational Fluid Dynamic Techniques

According to the National Heart Lung and Blood Institute, more than 30,000 newborns in the United States are born with Congenital Heart Defects (CHDs) every year. The Total Cavo-pulmonary Connection (TCPC) or the Fontan operation is a widely employed procedure to palliate CHD conditions. Two variants of this procedure are currently in use namely the intra-atrial TCPC and the extra-cardiac TCPC....

Multiphase flow and tromp curve simulation of dense medium cyclones using Computational Fluid Dynamics

Dense Medium Cyclone is a high capacity device that is widely used in coal preparation. It is simple in design but the swirling turbulent flow, the presence of medium and coal with different density and size fraction and the presence of the air-core make the flow pattern in DMCs complex. In this article the flow pattern simulation of DMC is performed with computational fluid dynamics and Fluent...

Computational fluid dynamics simulations for investigation of parameters affecting goaf gas distribution

It is necessary to obtain a fundamental understanding of the goaf gas flow patterns in longwall mine in order to develop optimum goaf gas drainage and spontaneous combustion (sponcom) management strategies. The best ventilation layout for a longwall underground mine should assist in goaf gas drainage and further reduce the risk of sponcom in the goaf. Further, in the longwall panel, regulators ...

Computational fluid dynamics study and GA modeling approach of the bend angle effect on thermal-hydraulic characteristics in zigzag channels

In the study, the thermal-hydraulic performance of the zigzag channels with circular cross-section was analyzed by Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD). The standard K-Ꜫ turbulent scalable wall functions were used for modeling. The wall temperature was assumed constant 353 K and water was used as the working fluid. The zigzag serpentine channels with bend angles of 5 - 45° were studied for turbul...

Three Dimensional Computational Fluid Dynamics Analysis of a Proton Exchange Membrane Fuel Cell

A full three-dimensional, single phase computational fluid dynamics model of a proton exchange membrane fuel cell (PEMFC) with both the gas distribution flow channels and the Membrane Electrode Assembly (MEA) has been developed. A single set of conservation equations which are valid for the flow channels, gas-diffusion electrodes, catalyst layers, and the membrane region are developed and numer...
